2016 HMS Science Fair

6:00-8:00 pm in the HMS gymnasium

It's time for some science! In 2015 HMS proudly advanced 3 students to the California State Science Fair! Let's do it again! All students in grades 6-8 are encouraged to register. Display Boards are due before school October 25th. The Family Viewing night is October 26th from 6:00-8:00 pm. Food trucks will be present so you can forget about cooking for the night! Any left display board will be discarded if not picked up by 7:45 pm

Register to participate
All young scientists wishing to display a project at the fair must register in advance through
this online form
. Final registration deadline is October 20.
Working with someone else.
You may work on your project independently, or you may optionally work with ONE partner ONLY who is also a student at Huntington Middle School. If partners are in different grades, project will be judged with the grade of the oldest partner. We cannot accept group projects of more than 2 students.
Need help choosing a topic?
When it comes to choosing a topic, the sky is the limit! What have you wondered about? The best topics come from your own genuine curiosity about how something works, or why something is the way that it is. But if you have trouble thinking of something on your own, the internet is full of resources to help you choose a topic. Still need help? Contact your science teacher.

Volunteers needed!
A big event like the science fair wouldn't be possible without the help of numerous volunteers. We have all kinds of different jobs to be done, so if think you can spare an hour or two on the day of the fair, we would love your help. Please contact Alexis Anvekar at

Important deadlines
September 26th: Registration opens
October 20: Registration closes
October 25th: projects due in the HMS Gym by 8:00 a.m.
October 26th: Family Fun night at the Fair 6:00-8:00 (remove boards by 7:45 pm sharp or they will be discarded)
Your display needs
Due to building constraints, we are unable to supply electricity to projects for the fair.
Your display
Please purchase a standard tri-fold display at a local craft or office store. It can be cardboard (aobut $5) or foam board (about $15)
